Achieve Music Event Success – Five Subtle Secrets

Organizing a music event? Five subtle secrets to making it a massive success!

Music events can be a tricky business. To make a music event a success, one must find a perfect balance between the audience having fun and keeping them safe. It’s important to realize that while the former matters most to the audience, the latter is more important to the organization hosting the event. That being said, both are musts when it comes to making your music event a success. In this humble blog, we will give you five tips on how to make your music event successful in both areas.

Know Your Audience

This is a big one, and not just when it comes to picking out artists (which obviously is a big part of success). It also should be the basis for other decisions, such as what kind of beer will be served? The beer that a college-age fan of Arctic Monkeys can afford and want is far different from what a middle-aged fan of Eric Clapton will want. This applies also to food choices, decoration choices, companies who will want to promote the event, etc. Knowing your audience as much as possible is an absolute must. If possible, go all the way with this and talk to members of that audience before the show and see what they want. This way, you can tailor the event to meet their needs, and everyone has a better chance of going home happy.

Have Cell Phone Charging Stations

This may not seem like a usual number two for a list of this sort, but it’s a very important item in modern event planning and one that is usually not planned for properly. Cell phones are used by everyone nowadays, especially at events. The audience wants to take pictures with their friends, they want to video-record bits of the show, and, most important to event organizers, they want to share these in real time. That sharing is an awesome way to gain free marketing to the niche audience you are appealing to. Also, keep in mind, the audience may not notice that you have enough cell phone charging stations…but they sure as all hell will remember if you don’t have enough. That’s what you don’t want to happen. For more on information, see this previous post on cell phone charging stations.

Make Sure You Have Enough First Aid / Water Stations

This comes under the safety category mentioned above. You want your audience to be safe. If this doesn’t happen, nothing else you do matters. If someone is badly injured at your event, and you don’t have enough help on hand to take care of it, you will never live it down. The venue won’t want you back, the artists won’t want to work with you again, the fans won’t trust your event, and, worst of all, someone else’s pain is in your hands. That’s not a feeling you want. Make sure there are enough first aid stations, spread out in a logistical fashion, to work best for the event. Make sure there are enough water stations. This is obvious at an outdoor festival but applies to indoor as well. With all the dancing and moving at shows, along with alcohol intake, it’s easy for someone to get sick from dehydration. Having enough water stations will take care of this issue before it’s an issue. That is what you want.

Cater Your Surroundings To Your Crowd

You must do number one before this, but this is a must. You want your audience to feel like they are in a personal playground, where everything they see is something they enjoy. Take some time to KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE, and make the venue something they want to take pictures of (once again, free publicity) and come back to. This will make your future events more likely to be successful as well. Many believe the band and event itself are enough, which is good for you. It means your music event will stand out when you put more thought into décor than your competitors do. This is easy to do with indoor arenas, but can work with outdoor music events as well. Something like this outdoor event wall can really amp up the outdoor event and make it stand out above the others.

Make It Fun For Teens

This is something that many event organizers don’t think about. For most, they think of the beer sales as the bigger priority. It’s not. Sure, alcohol sales are a huge part, but don’t underestimate the underage audience. These are the ones who will spend ALL their money to see their favorite music acts because they CAN. Without rent or bills to pay, they can spend their cash all at your event, on merch, or non-alcoholic beverages, or food, or novelties. Have a sectioned off corner just for underage concertgoers, to match the beer tent for those of age. This will ensure everyone has a great time and leaves happy. And that is what you want.
